Check out his report here! Flying our colours, great to see!
On 2nd November I raced in the WURL, in my first race for Cardiff Uni, but in HWCC colours! I was in the points race (but on road bikes, not track bikes) at Maindy Velodrome in Cardiff. It was a cold day and it took a long time to warm up. From word go, I pushed my way up so I was about 3rd wheel. Coming into the first sprint, I was on the front and lead out my teammate who won the opening sprint. I settled back into the pack and after a couple of laps, a break away of 2 riders (one Bristol, one Cardiff) formed. I saw that the Cardiff rider was beginning to struggle so I attacked off the bunch to try and get up to him. However, as I did, the Bristol rider dropped him. So now, I had to make that break so that I could be the lead rider. I bridged the gap after about a lap and dropped the Bristol rider, so I was alone. I comfortably won the next couple of sprints, but was beginning to tire. Then, after another couple of laps, I looked round and saw a Bristol rider had bridged to me. We worked together to stay away, but he soon tired and I had to push on the front to make the break stay. Coming into the last lap, I knew I had won, but wanted to cross the line in style. So I kicked it up a couple of gears and pushed the speed, with the peleton about 10m behind me! I crossed the line 1st with about a 5m gap. I was pretty chuffed to have stayed away for the whole thing... and to look good in Wycombe colours!
Congrats Ollie! Keep them coming!
