Have a read of Steve James's report of race on the Hoggenberg!Feb 18th, Hog Hill 2/3. 7th
''Drove over with fellow HWCC racer Neil Ashton who raced on the Hoggenberg for the first time. This is a tough circuit at about 3mins a lap and a hill which ramps up to 10% and is a circa 500w effort each lap for me. Neil took an impressive 8th in a selective 4th cat race which put pressure on me to nab some points also. Was feeling over confident at the start and marked moves for first 20mins. I was patrolling the front when a couple of guys made a move at the bottom of the downhill and took a few lengths. I let the gap go thinking it looked like a good move and was convinced I could bridge in a few corners. I let the gap push out and made my move to get across. Unfortunately my legs instantly felt horrible and the good sensations vanished. I spent 2 laps in between the 2 breakaway riders and the bunch and eventually got caught by the the peloton. The race then really heated up and I was struggling for next 5 laps just to hang on. The 2 guys impressively stayed away and I just saved the legs best I can for the finale. I had faith in my sprint after a lot of big gear hill intervals and squats added to my training over the winter, so just made sure I was in strike distance. It was a big effort coming from near the back of the bunch but I got lucky with my line and drove straight through the middle of the pack to take 5th from the bunch. With 2 up the road that's a P7 so one better than Neil. Bonus! ''
Good efforts all round!
