Round 10 of the Central CX league was a muddy affair - Add the lumpy course a Belgium frites van and you have a CX classic on your hands.
We had Chris Ford, Jon Chadwick and Cipo heading up the Vets 50+, Caroline Goodman in the Women’s Novice race and Huw Thomas and Tall Andy in the Seniors. The weather was pretty kind overall but cold and windy and as the day progressed the circuit began to resemble a ploughed field as the mud got deeper and deeper.
In the Vets 50+ Chris yet again managed to get the better of Chad with a solid 37th place; much to Chad’s dismay, who finished just behind in 38th place. Although not really the conditions for a sprinter, Cipo battled on, loving the bike shouldering and running through deep mud to finish in 76th place. On her first outing Caroline had a comfortable win in the Women’s Novice Race and looks more than ready to move up a level.
In the one hour of hell that was the Seniors Race and on a course that was rapidly turning into the Somme, Andy managed a decent 42nd place and after a couple of weeks off the bike Huw finished in an excellent 47th place; and to add to the fun it even rained on the last lap.
Decent results all round and a great atmosphere and support as usual.
The next round is Saturday 3rd Dec in Kettering.
