General NewsCovid-19. Updated 22 June

15th June

Here is a club update on the current guidance for cycling activities. HWCC is affiliated to Cycling Time Trials (CTT) and British Cycling (BC) and we will therefore follow their lead on when it is appropriate to relax some of the current Covid-19 restrictions on our activities.

Club Runs
Government guidance currently allows you to meet in a group of up to 6 people to exercise outdoors but a 2m distance should be observed between people from different households. Organised club runs are suspended until 4th July 2020 in accordance with BC guidelines.
BC have stated that organised club activities may be able to resume after 4th July 2020 subject to relaxation of current lockdown rules by the government. This is provisional and will be confirmed by BC and the HWCC committee once government advice is updated.

Road Racing & Sportives
BC has suspended regional road racing and sportives until 1st August 2020. National road races are suspended until 1st September 2020. Road racing will be able to resume after these dates if current government restrictions are lifted. HWCC are still provisionally intending to hold our Margaret Wright Road Race on 16th August 2020.

Time Trials
All time trials (club or open) are suspended by CTT until 4th July 2020. If government restrictions are lifted further on 4th July then club time trials will be able to resume from 6th July 2020 and open events will be able to resume from 18th July 2020.
HWCC has regretfully had to cancel all of our open events for 2020 but hope to be able to run six of the planned Evening Time Trial Series starting on 7th July 2020.

Please continue to observe the current government restrictions. All the steps outlined above are provisional and will be formally confirmed by further emails from the committee. We look forward to a time when traditional club activities can resume.
Several club members have been very active in organising events using Zwift which have proved popular. Details of these can be found on the club Facebook page and new look website.

The HWCC Committee

22nd June

The HWCC committee have reviewed the latest British Cycling guidelines, which stated that club activity would be allowed to resume in groups of up to 6 provided social distancing of 2m is observed between riders from different households.
The current club advice is that riding in groups of 6 with 2m spacing is considered unlikely to be safe or practical on public roads, especially with traffic volumes returning to higher levels. The committee believe it is not advisable to resume organised club rides until the next phase of relaxing the lockdown which is currently due to be on 4th July 2020.
We are currently planning how to hold the remaining evening time trials starting from 7th July 2020 in anticipation of CTT allowing club time trials to resume. Further information on this will be communicated to the membership in due course.
We hope you and your family stay safe and look forward to the day when we can all cycle together once more.
