ResultsHWCC Open 25 Time Trial Report

The High Wycombe Cycling Club Open 25 mile time trial was held on Sunday 23rd May using the fast H25/2 course. Thankfully the rain held off on the day although there were a number of challenges running the event including a blocked toilet at HQ and a late timekeeper!

Once the riders set off the times started coming in. Rob Walker of AeroLab Ward Wheelz (and HWCC second claim member) set the early pace in the men’s event clocking 49.15 which was enough for second place overall. Our own Dena Ford set a very fast 59.12 in the ladies event which stood until soe of the later starters came through. There were some incredible rides by HWCC riders including 51.13 by 18 year old Adam Charleston which was enough for 5th place in the men’s event. Cormac Nisbet (the only junior in the field) clocked 54.56 (20th place overall). The highest placed HWCC member was Sam Hucks who managed a highly impressive 50.08 to finish in the third place. Jeff Roberts also put in a great performance to clock 53.42 (12th place overall). These strong rides ensured that the first place team prize went to High Wycombe Cycling Club with a total time of 2.35.03. David Yates set a new PB for a 25 mile TT clocking 1.00.27 while there were also strong rides from Philip Porteous (58.36) and Michael Garvey (58.30).

Ollie Hucks (Nopinz Motip Race Team) won the men’s event in 48.28 and will be awarded the Wilkinson Sword Trophy at the club dinner. Ollie is a second claim HWCC member and former junior rider with the club. The top three places in the men’s event were all former HWCC junior riders. We are very proud to see them competing and winning at the highest level.
Angela Carpenter (…a3crg) won the ladies event in 54.11. We later found out that this is a CTT record for her age group so clearly a very special ride from Angela. Claire Emons (Newbury RC) was second in the ladies event with 57.50 with Danuta Tinn (Maidenhead and District CC) in third.

HWCC would like to thank the CTT timekeepers Don Ashton (Farnborough and Camberley CC) and Howard Waller (Python RT) for their efforts.
A massive thank you must go to the HWCC members who gave up their Sunday morning to assist with this event. As the organiser I’d like to give special mention to Bob and Margaret Lambert who organised the catering and also sorted out collecting the keys for the HQ. I’d also like to thank Gordon Wright for his support and advice in the lead up to the event and for arranging the timekeepers and Carol Chapman for catering assistance. Gordon, Carol, Bob and Margaret were at the HQ from the moment it opened at 6am and were cleaning it up once everyone had gone home. The quality of the cakes on offer was to the usual high standard thanks to Carol, Margaret and Cheryl.
Thanks must also go to John Day and Harry Henley for signing the course and collecting the remaining signs afterwards.
I would also like to thank all of the following members who helped at the event: Clare Smith, Cheryl Baker, Sally White, Sam Gallagher, Guy Pethybridge, Tracy Taylor, Cathy Roberts, Paul Squires, Juliet Milward, Richard King, Jenny Hutchinson, Gareth Ash, Gavin Smith, Paul Hill, Tony Browne, Caroline Lief, Tony Eva, Paul Morrissey, Robin Nickless and Tim Nisbet. As the organiser, it makes me incredibly proud to see HWCC members come together to make an event like this happen.
