Better than expected turn out for the Hilly 50, considering the weather. The rain stayed away with the sun making an appearance on several occasions. its was a little blustery in places, but didn't dampen the spirits of conquering those hills. Great effort everyone.
An alternative ride by Nick Calkin:-
"Well I rode the Hilly 50 route on the MTB. Headed out at 0805 for a fun packed rainy, headwindy ride out to Risborough. Started the course at 0835 to give the roadies a chance. By the bottom of Kingston hill the rain had stopped and I was slowly boiling in a bag, so had to stop and strip off my windproof and full finger gloves. By the time I got going again I was freezing and took ages to warm up again. Headwind most of the way to Ewelme. Maidensgrove climb was sheltered, but as I came out of the trees onto the exposed road I almost got blown to a complete stop. Chinnor to Risborough was fun and fast. Glanced behind me at the bottom of Kop to see a solo roadie catching me quickly, so put a spurt on to keep ahead of him back to the car park. It was a nice chap called Mark, who came in about 30 secs behind me. Glad I did it now it’s over "
